Jeep – a name that resonates with SUV aficionados from the across the globe has finally made its entry in the Indian market. The iconic brand’s debut in India includes not one, but two SUV models – Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. The US-based car manufacturer, for now, has plans to open ten dealerships across India starting with New Delhi and Ahmadabad. By the end of October, it’ll have dealerships in Chennai and Mumbai followed by Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and Bengaluru later in the year. The Indian version of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is available exclusively in the four-door Unlimited variant and is priced at Rs. 71.59 lakhs. The Grand Cherokee starts at Rs. 93.64 lakhs for the Limited version, while the high-end ‘Grand Cherokee Summit‘ has been priced at Rs. 1,03,39,919. The top-of-the-line Grand Cherokee SRT featuring the V8 engine is priced at Rs. 1,12,07,825. All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Specs and Features

In terms of specifications, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is powered by a 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 200PS at 3600rpm and 460 Nm of torque at 1600-2000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox alongside Command-Trac 4WD as standard.

Jeep Wrangelr’s ARAI-rated fuel efficiency is touted at 12.1 kmpl. Other key features include a 6.5-inch UConnect touchscreen infotainment with voice command and GPS navigation, 40GB hard-drive, 17-inch Good Year tyres along with automatic climate control and a Tyre pressure tracking system. The Jeep Wrangler will be available in six color options.

Jeep Grand Cherokee and Summit: Specs and Features

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit, on the other hand, are powered by a 3.0 lit3.0-litre diesel engine that generates 243 PS at 3600 rpm and 570 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. Powering the drive-train is an 8-speed automatic gearbox that gets steering mounted paddle shifters, fitted with an active 4WD system.

The top-of-the-line of Grand Cherokee SRT gets a massive 6.4-litre V8 N/A petrol engine that belts out 470bhp and 630 Nm of torque. However, it gets the same 8-speed automatic gearbox found on the standard Grand Cherokee. This one gets exclusive features such as  Launch Control, Brembo disc brakes and a feature called Selec Track, which adjusts suspension, torque levels, stability control and engine mapping.

In the coming future, Jeep will start CBU operations in India for its upcoming C-SUV, which is expected to debut soon in internationally, along with the Renegade. Jeep has reportedly invested $280 million (Rs. 1,878.66 crore approximately) at its Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra, for the production of this model.
