iPhone vs Android: Which platform is the best for mobile gaming?

Mobile gaming is a constantly growing market with more players than ever turning to their mobile devices for a cheeky bit of game time as they look to fill the odd free minutes of their day. However, in the argument over whether iPhone devices or Android devices are best for gaming we have done the research, so you don’t have to. Here is what we found!

Game Choice

One major factor that will decide which platform is better for mobile gaming is judging the availability of games for each one. There is nothing more annoying than hearing about a top class app for one platform, searching for it on the other platform, and finding out it is not available.

Fortunately, the vast majority of big-name mobile titles are available on both devices, so there is little to choose in this category. However, the big difference is with the exclusive games. A few titles such as Plants vs. Zombies and Cut The Rope 2 were released on the iPhone before they hit the Google Play market. The reason for this is Apple’s proactive approach to sealing deals for exclusivity with the developers of the highly-anticipated titles. Eventually, the games are available on both platforms, but the earlier release on iOS gives the iPhone the edge.

Free Stuff

A continuing annoyance that puts users off the iPhone is the fact that a large number of games require a minimal fee whereas the same games are available for free on the Android platform. The free version is in no way, shape, or form substandard. It is simply that due to purchasing it from the App Store you will need to pay a fee.

Examples of this have included Angry Birds, Pou, and Cut The Rope. Android users will certainly have a lot more choice when it comes to accessing games for free, and this means that if you are looking at it from an economic perspective, then the Android devices are by far the more appealing option.

Sports Betting

Mobile sports betting is an industry that is still very much in its infancy, but more and more punters are turning to place bets on the move. Bookmakers are picking up on this and releasing mobile apps and mobile-specific sites to appeal to more punters. A range of bonus offers and deals are also being offered to lure punters to the mobile versions of the bookmaker sites.

Unfortunately, a large number of online bookmakers have released mobile apps that are available on the iPhone but have not yet been released on the Android market. This can be frustrating for users on Android devices who want to bet on their mobile devices but are restricted to the less user-friendly mobile-specific sites over, the more convenient mobile apps. That is certain to change over time as mobile betting evolves but for the time being it is a disappointment for Android users.

Casino Gaming

It is a similar situation for mobile casino gaming. Online casinos are finding increased revenues through their mobile products and as developers release mobile versions of their casinos and games it is a market that is growing on a daily basis. Online casinos such as Jackpot City, Party Casino, and bet365 Casino have impressive mobile offerings, but not all of these are available on Google Play.

This is where the iPhone moves ahead once again. The vast majority of mobile casino apps for online casinos are available in the Apple Store, and this can prove a decisive factor for keen mobile casino players who want to access mobile casinos and their games on an easy-to-use app as opposed to accessing fiddly mobile version of the online site.

Bonus Offers and Promotions

This is one area where Android comes into its own. It is not a case of Android having bonus offers and promotions available and the Apple Store being absent of them. Both have the offers and promotions displayed. However, it is simply the fact that the offers and promotions are more obvious on Google Play.

The general feeling is that Google Play wants you to find their bonus offers and promotions. They even have an entire section dedicated to discounted apps for players to download. In contrast, you have to work a little harder to find such a vast array of offers in the Apple Store.

If there is an area that iPhone thrives, it is connected to other devices. It is a core part of the Apple brand. Once you own one item, they want you to own all the products and connect them all together.¬† Connect the iPhone to the iMac to the iPod to the iWatch. It’s all very inbred in a technological sense.

Android offers a similar standard of connectivity but with a bit more flexibility where the convenience falls short. Big franchise games such as Grand Theft Auto V, Battlefield, and Assassin’s Creed 4 will offer accompanying mobile apps that both platforms can offer top quality connectivity to. If you want the convenience, then opt for iPhone, but if you want flexibility, then it should be Android.

Our final verdict is that iPhone is slightly pip to Android devices when it comes to which platforms offer a better experience for mobile gaming. The pricing of apps is the main downside, but this is eclipsed by the wide selection of games, exclusivity and early release of games, and the ease at which games can be accessed. It is a close call, but iPhone sneaks it.
