Intel 7th Gen 10-core processor Kaby Lake with Broadwell-E chip coming this year

At the ongoing Computex 2016 in Taipei, Intel has confirmed the launch of its seventh generation Core processors, codenamed Kaby Lake, by the end of 2016. According to Intel, the new 10-core desktop processor powered with Broadwell-E chip family offers improved multitasking capabilities.

While the Kaby Lake chips oriented for desktop PCs will arrive in December 2016, Intel is planning to launch a new range of Apollo Lake processors with USB Type-C technology, oriented for 2-in-1 devices and tablets. The new Apollo series will replace the currently available Atom processors. However, the upcoming Kaby Lake processors feature advanced performance enhancements, better battery life, and media functionalities. The new chip will also provide support for Window Hello by default, which enables you to login to your devices easier.

To be designed under 14nm manufacturing process, the Asus Transformer 3 will be the first device to be equipped with the Kaby Lake Core M7 processor instead of a full-fledged Core i7 processor. However, Intel hasn’t clarified as to whether the M7 chip will be manufactured based on the Kaby Lake architecture.

Although Asus has announced the device at the Computex, the company will launch it only by the end of November. Normally, Intel hands over the new processors package to OEMs well ahead of market availability.

MSI, meanwhile, also showcased a Kaby Lake-powered Z210 motherboard on the Computex show floor with expected release date around November. Set to disrupt the way we communicate with PCs, the new Kaby Lake processors will offer better and efficient cooling functions even without a fan.

The extreme editions of the upcoming Broadwell-E chip Intel Core i7 processor are designed for gamers, VR fans, content creators, video producers, and overclockers.

Responding to media, Frank Soqui, GM of Intel’s Enthusiast Desktop Group revealed that with the integration of two threads per core in Broadwell-E chip range, gamers can expect enhanced performance with faster speeds. He also said that the company has implemented Turbo Boost Max to enable gamers to take full advantage of the processor capabilities without sacrificing performance.

The upcoming Core i7-6950X extreme edition features 10 cores with 20 threads, Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, 4-channel memory support, 25MB smart cache in an unlocked structure. In his talk, Soqui disclosed that the new processor will benefit mega-taskers, who perform a wide range of multithreaded and compute-intensive tasks such as 360-degree VR editing, 3D graphics including rendering 4K videos.
