Google Dropped the idea of naming Android 4.4 as Key Lime Pie since very few people actually know the taste. It announced KitKat as the name for its upcoming version. Now the version name (v4.4) is fixed, many have started requesting Google to name the version after KitKat as Android Ladoo.

Android Ladoo campaign

A set of geeks from India have started campaigning to promote this idea of naming an Android version after an Indian sweet, Ladoo. The ball shaped sweet is made from flour, sugar, clarified butter and other ingredients.

Pricebaba, a shopping search site is leading the campaign and is backed by more than 500 startups. Last year too, the site had launched a campaign to convince Google to name the new build after Indian sweet Kaju Katli, but failed.

Ladoo

From the campaign site:

We are Indians. We have a big heart. We understand that there might be commercial pressures to do so. Or may be our voices were just not loud enough to make KajuKatli Android a reality. We still love Android and we are committed to see a version of Android that is dedicated after an Indian sweet. With enough advance notice this time, we request you to name the next version of Android as LADOO.

To give impetus to the campaign, the site has sought support from social networks and Internet users. As a strategy, the campaigners are sending ladoo boxes to Google execs. Sundar Pichai, the executive who heads up Android, is familiar with the term since he is an India. Will he take a note of Indian sentiments? Currently, all seems unlikely. let’s wait and watch!
