India-bound Hyundai Verna 2017 spotted ahead of launch

After being unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show as a concept, Hyundai’s next-generation Verna, Hyundai Verna 2017, was recently spotted undisguised. The sedan is expected to make its official debut later this year as it looks production ready. It was spotted without any camouflage with all the proper badging, which suggests the car might go on sale sooner than expected.

Needless to say, the production version comes with a slew of changes compared to the concept car. However, most of them are limited to the exteriors. As expected, the Hyundai Verna 2017 gets inspired by the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. Changes on the exterior include a heavily redesigned wide grille with chrome outlines that seems to be inspired by Audi.

The tail lamps along with bumpers have also undergone a complete design overhaul. Though it still retains the bulging headlamps and the sloping roofline of its previous model.

In terms of dimensions, the upcoming Verna’s wheelbase is claimed to have been increased by 30 mm compared to its predecessor. In addition, the overall length and width have been increased by 5 mm and 28 mm respectively for improved space efficiency. The next-generation Verna will be 4,380 mm in length, 1,728 mm in width and 1,460 mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

The car’s interiors are also expected to get upgraded to take on the competition. We can expect the next-generation Verna to get touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, leather seats along with increased boot space.

Under the hood, the car will get 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines that produce 100 bhp and 123 bhp respectively. The India bound variant will likely get the same petrol and diesel engines as the outgoing version. The car is expected to go on sale in India in the second half of 2017.
