Hyundai is preparing to launch a brand new version of its highly acclaimed i20 in India. The upcoming variant will sport an automatic gearbox. We will get to see the brand new model in 2017 along with several other improvements. The company aims to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz CVT with the latest model. The South Korea-based car manufacturer has left a significant mark in the premium hatchback segment with the i20 series. The company recently declared that it has managed to cross the one billion mark with the number of i20 hatchbacks sold around the world. In India, a new revamped 2017 version of the Hyundai i20 line-up will be unveiled in the coming year.

A number of premium hatchbacks in the Indian car market have started to offer automatic gear shifting variants. Manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, and Volkswagen, are already selling their automatic hatchbacks Baleno, Jazz CVT and the Polo DSG respectively in the country. Hyundai has been losing some grounds due to unavailability of an automatic variant of its flagship hatchback.

With the forthcoming automatic i20, Hyundai wishes to enter the new arena of automatic premium hatchbacks. Hyundai will include the automatic variant in its 2017 facelift of its i20 series.

Performance Review of Hyundai i20 facelift

Hyundai started to manufacture the i20 in the year 2008 as a mid-variant of the i10 and the i30. In August 2014, the company launched a new generation of i20 hatchbacks. The new variant is currently sold in India under the name of Elite i20.

The petrol variant of the present i20 offers a 5-speed manual gearbox, and the diesel version is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearshift. There are ten different models of the car in India which are priced between 5 lakhs to 9 lakhs approximately.

Currently, Hyundai Creta features an automatic variant in India. The car sports a 1.6-litre engine with 6-speed automatic gearbox. Hyundai sells the Creta for around Rs.15 lakhs in India.
