Huawei second Mathematics Research Centre opens in France

Huawei opens research centre in France

Chinese Telecommunication giant Huawei, during its fourth European Innovation Day, announced the opening of a Mathematics Research Centre in France. The first Mathematics Research Centre is located in Russia.

Professor and mathematics researcher Mérouane Debbah has directed the center which aims to provide an answer to global technological challenges. The company in a press conference stated that it will contest the limit of Moore’s Law and will help in extending human mind on what the internet can bring.

Apart from this, the center will work in close collaboration with French academia, which will aim to create a thriving academic ecosystem focused on ICT development. It will also concentrate on mathematical algorithms to drive ICT breakthroughs.

Commenting on this latest development, Merouane Debbah said,

The new center will focus its attention on research on mathematical algorithms, designing a new architecture, apply new mathematical tools and models to the ICT sector and to build a new theory system. Apart from this, Huawei is looking at building a close partnership with Supelec, Eurocom, Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies, Telecom ParisTech and other colleges and universities.

Currently, eighty researchers who have a doctorate or higher are a part of the research center. The new research facility located in Boulogne-Billancourt aims to combine France’s mathematical research expertise and Huawei’s capabilities in applying research to business, which will bring France’s talent and technologies in the global ICT sector.

In addition to this, Huawei will invest 10-15% of their sales revenue in R&D every year. Russian mathematicians have made a revolutionary breakthrough in algorithms for 2G and 3G systems and also is developing more competitive, lighter and smaller products.

So far Huawei has a center in Russia and has established a total of 16 research centers worldwide.
