Huawei Mate 8 with Android M and Fingerprint Sensor to be launched on December 9

Huawei Mate 8

Huawei Mate 8 will be launched in China on December 9, 2015, to begin with and expected to hit India by the end of January.

The device is expected to include a circular fingerprint sensor placed below the rear camera. Moreover, Mate 8 will include a combination of 2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 and 1.8 GHz Cortex A53 quad core processors.

He Gang, head of Huawei’s smartphone division disclosed the availability in China and pricing structure of the new high-end device. It is expected that the news regarding the global availability of Huawei Mate 8 will be made during CES 2016 in January.

Huawei Mate 8 will be available in two configurations such as 3GB and 4GB RAM. Moreover, the device will be available in three different storage options like 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. According to official sources, champagne edition of the handset will also be available at around INR 72000.

Huawei Mate 8 features two metal clad Nano-SIM card slots and will be powered with Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with Huawei’s Emotion UI. There are reports that the second SIM slot can also be used as microSD card slot.

Huawei Mate 8 ships with a 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery that we hope to provide superior backup. The device measures 186 grams in weight and has a 7.9 mm thickness body.

The device includes Nano-SIM slots and hence you will have to find adapters if you have a micro SIM card. We feel that the device is expected to get hot during extreme gaming since it is powered by a combination of two processors but will have a better cooling mechanism in place.

Huawei Mate 8 provides an ability to charge 37% battery in under 30 minutes. The device is expected to be available in Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray and Mocha Brown colours.

Key Specs of Huawei Mate 8:

  • 6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) display
  • IPS-NEO LCD capacitive touchscreen
  • 368 PPI pixel density
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4
  • HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset
  • Mali-T880MP4 GPU running at 900MHz
  • 16MP primary camera
  • Sony IMX298 sensor with OIS
  • Phase-detection technology
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • Sony IMX179 sensor for Selfies

We wonder why Huawei has named the device as Mate 8 by including a 6-inch display. Huawei doesn’t have a great market share in India since the devices are priced higher than their competitors.

We feel that Huawei can succeed if they release a budget smartphone priced at around INR 70,00 and will give a strong fight to Redmi devices.
