HTC unveils Desire Eye selfie smartphone for INR 35990 in India

HTC earlier announced that it will sell its HTC Desire Eye smartphone exclusively via online retail partner Amazon. The company did not provide any pricing updates when it first unveiled this phone in India.

While HTC India website still lists it as ‘Coming soon,’ the company has already made its phone available for sale at physical stores. The much-anticipated selfie smartphone has been priced at INR 35,990 in India.

There is no information on what made the company change its plans of online release and make the device available offline.

HTC Desire Eye allows capturing best of selfie even with front camera as the smartphone boasts front-facing camera with 13 MP sensors, same as the rear camera. Both the cameras are accompanied by dual-LED flash.

It also features front-facing stereo speakers boasted by HTC BoomSound technology. The phone measures 151.7×73.8×8.5mm in dimensions, a 5.2-inch full-HD LCD display and comes with IPX7 rating to offer water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

HTC Desire Eye is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and a 2400mAh Li-Po battery. The phone runs on 2GB of RAM and comes with 16GB internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The early launch might be aimed at pushing sales ahead of Micromax Canvas Selfie, which is set to launch in India during the second week of January. The Indian smartphone maker hasn’t provided any updates on pricing.

While the Canvas Selfie features 13MP Sony sensor for front and rear camera, a front-facing camera has a single LED light compared to dual-LED flash for rear camera. HTC Desire Eye enjoys the advantage as it offers dual-LED light even for front-facing camera.

Micromax is known for its competitive pricing, and its launch could certainly trigger competition in selfie-centric segment, once it unveils the pricing plans.
