HTC’s upcoming flagship, the U11 has been leaked online in all its glory, which is hardly surprising given that we have less than even a week left in its formal unveiling. The HTC U11 is set for an official launch on May 16.
However, if the device looks familiar, blame it on the HTC U Play or the HTC U that we have already been treated with. That said, the device still manages to look fresh, much of it has to do in the manner the display is attached to the main body. It is markedly raised, which together with its rounded edges looks almost the same as the display on the Apple Watch.
Based on new leaks and initial speculations, it appears HTC’s next flagship would get one or two standout features. Besides, a few key sources also suggest it’ll pack high-end innards and will be super-powerful. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming HTC 11 – or HTC U, or HTC U11.
HTC U11: Design
The HTC U11 is said to feature an almost bezel-free display though much less pronounced as on the Samsung Edge series, or the more recent S8. That again makes for a smart design move considering that it makes the side bezels seem negligible to almost invisible.
The leaked image reveals an HTC U11 handset done up in fiery red, which together with the front all-black display makes for a stunning contrast. The front is an all-glass affair, interrupted at the top with inserts for the earpiece and front cam holes or a few other sensors.
The physical home button which presumably hides a fingerprint sensor is placed along the bottom. Overall, the bezel at the top and bottom seems quite pronounced compared to the likes of the LG G6 or the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The rear again sports a glossy finish, which gets extended along the edges as well. However, the edges will be unlike any other as those will allow for tactile feedback, something that HTC refers to as Edge Sense.
The company has itself taken to social media to tease of should be the smartphone’s headline feature. HTC’s next flagship will have no physical or Home buttons. Instead, the smartphone would feature Touch-Sensitive sensors on both sides which can be used to launch apps, switch between apps, or create shortcuts.
The HTC U will come with what’s said to be a touch sensitive outer frame that would react to specific actions allowing users to open an app or launch the camera app directly

And just like past HTC flagships, we are likely to see upcoming flagship featuring a full metal unibody. Also, Blass even suggests that HTC will offer the device in a choice of five colors – white, black, blue, red and silver.
HTC U11: Specifications and Features
The rumor mill points to a 5.2-inch or a 5.5-inch Super LCD screen with a Quad HD screen which should translate into a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels.
VentureBeat reports that HTC is expected to pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in its next flagship phone. Based on 10nm manufacturing process, Qualcomm claims the SoC offers around 20 percent improved performance over its predecessor. It’s also supposed to improve battery life, faster downloading speeds, Quick Charge 4.0 support, along with improved GPU capabilities.
Meanwhile, new leaks that have surfaced over the past few months also suggest it’s 4GB RAM variant would pack 64GB of built-in storage, while its 6GB RAM variant will offer 128GB of built-in storage.
As far as camera go, the rumored HTC U11 is said to pack a 12MP primary camera. For now, there’s no word whether the device would feature a dual-camera setup. or selfies, the smartphone is expected to feature a 16MP front-facing shooter.
Sources suggest that HTC would ditch the 3.5mm jack for a USB-Type C port for charging, data transfer, and listen to music. That said, it would get HTC’s proprietary BoomSound branding to offer a top-notch audio experience. The smartphone is also expected to have four microphones on board for best-in-class audio recording.
As far as the battery goes, reports suggest HTC would pack its upcoming flagship with a 3000mAh battery with support for Quick Charging.
HTC U 11: OS
Android 7.0 Nougat is likely on the cards for HTC’s next flagship phone. Besides, a leaked screenshot indicates that Android 7.1.2 – recently available in beta for Pixel and Nexus owners – was spotted running on a prototype HTC U 11 device. Hence, we expect the latest Android version right-out-of-the-box wrapped over HTC Sense 9 UI. Besides, we also expect it to feature the ever-popular Google Assistant. A leaked concept also suggests an integration between Google Assistant and HTC Companion to offer a more personalized experience.
