HTC launches Android based ‘Desire 500’ smartphone in India

HTC, the Taiwanese handset maker, launched Desire 500 handset in India on October 9, 2013. The handset is priced at Rs 21,490 and possesses many unique characteristics.

Among the various features of this mid-range handset includes a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor along with a 4.3-inch display and 4GB internal memory. But the memory is expandable and the handset supports a microSD card of up to 64GB. Desire 500 has a RAM of 1 GB.

Desire 500 also has 8MP primary camera and 1.6MP front-facing camera for fine picture quality. In fact, the rear camera of the handset can record 720p videos.

Moreover, the new HTC handset uses the Android 4 JellyBean operating system. It runs on Android 4.2 with Sense 5.0 on top, which brings interesting features like BlinkFeed Home screen.

The Desire range from HTC is popular for introducing best quality mobile experience to the market for masses. According to Faisal Siddiqui, HTC India Head, “The Desire range has become renowned for bringing a premium mobile experience to the mass market. This particular model enables powerful multitasking and boasts of an excellent camera.”

Additionally, the HTC Desire 500 will be available with dual SIM support and NFC. However, this feature will be available in select markets only. Besides, the new HTC handset has features like acceleration sensors, approaching sensors as well as Ambient light sensor. The handset also supports Bluetooth 4.0, WIFI, 2G and 3G.

Though the Desire 500 doesn’t support BoomSound, it does have the dual front speakers on the front panel.

Desire 500 handset is packet with a 1800 mAh battery and as per claims made by HTC the battery life will deliver up to 17.8 hours of talk time and 401 hours of standby time. The handset, which was unveiled in Taiwan in July 2013, is available on websites for online shopping.
