HTC Desire 816 and HTC Desire 610 to receive Android Lollipop update

Taiwanese manufacturer HTC is preparing to deliver good news to its users. A reliable source confirms that a number of its popular Android phones will be receiving Android Lollipop update over the next few months. The list includes HTC Desire 816 and Desire 610. HTC’s current flagship phone HTC One M8 and recent flagship M7 are confirmed to be getting the new version of Android, which takes colorful and animated interface for better user experience.

Career employees are already receiving test editions of Android Lollipop prepared for HTC One M8 and M7. It’s now only a matter of time before careers push the updates to the users. Whenever new Android versions arrive, Google’s Nexus phones and tablets are usually the first ones to get the update before any other device in the world. This time around, Motorola’s Moto G and Moto X also became the first ones to get the latest update, with Android Lollipop already rolling out to the budget phone Moto G across the world.

Big brands like Samsung, LG, Sony, and HTC take their time to push the update because first, they have to build their interface on top of the new Android version. Then they deliver this to the careers, which then further optimize and customize the operating system before finally delivering the update to users.

The process takes some months making users wait impatiently to receive the update, or go ahead and install a custom ROM like CyanogenMod to taste the new flavor, which means voiding the warranty. However, even that happens for flagship level phones most of the time. This time, following Motorola’s footstep, HTC is reportedly preparing the new version for low to mid-range smartphones too.

Sources say that by March, HTC Desire 816, along with Desire EYE and 820u will receive Android Lollipop update. By April, HTC Desire 610, 820s or 510 may also start getting Android Lollipop update. It’s notable that while Lollipop update largely refers to Android 5.0, it isn’t clear which version HTC will be delivering when it does. Users will have to wait until they receive the update on their smartphones.
