(Updated) Honor 10 Lite to launch in India on January 8 as a Flipkart Exclusive

Honor 10 Lite India 1

The Chinese giant Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is now teasing a new smartphone launch in India. While the company hasn’t revealed the handset yet, it is tipped to be the all-new Honor 10 Lite. If you remember, the Honor 10 Lite was first launched in China, back in November 2018.

Update: The Honor 10 Lite launch is now postponed to January 15 in India

The hint for the imminent launch comes from a teaser posted on Flipkart. This also confirms that the device will be exclusive to the e-commerce giant.

To begin with, the teaser showcases the partial design outline of the handset along with the water-drop notch. Further, it reads out “Honor is all set to revolutionise selfies in 2019” hinting at a selfie-centric approach. The device is scheduled for launch at 8 PM, January 8.

The Honor 10 Lite is a toned-down version of the Honor 10 and will apparently succeed the last year’s Honor 9 Lite. As far as the design is concerned, the device will be having a glass sandwich design with gradient finish and a notched display at the front. Provided that the device has already been launched in China, we know most of its specifications, detailed below.

Honor 10 Lite Specifications

The Honor 10 Lite sports a 6.21-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The display further touts a 19:5:9 aspect ratio and a 2.5D curved glass on top — the smaller water-drop notch results in an impressive screen-to-body ratio of around 90%.

Under the hood, it gets powered by the 12nm-based Kirin 710 SoC coupled with ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU and a dedicated NPU for AI tasks. In China, the device is offered in 4/64GB, 6/64GB, and 6/128GB RAM and storage configurations. All the three models get a microSD card slot for further storage expansion up to 256GB.

In the optics department, the Honor 10 Lite gets a dual camera set up at the back. The setup comprises a 13-megapixel primary shooter bearing an aperture of f/1.8, along with a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, the phone relies on a single 24-megapixel unit with f/2.0 aperture, unlike the 9 Lite which had dual front shooters.

As usual, the camera incorporates nifty AI features including portrait mode, HDR and smart scene detection which can recognize and enhance up to 22 different scenes in realtime with the use of NPU.

On the software terms, the device runs EMUI 9.0.1 based on the latest Android 9.0 Pie. Additional features include GPU Turbo 2.0, claimed to boost the graphics performance and power efficiency while gaming. One can also use Facial recognition for unlocking the device in addition to the fingerprint scanner present at the back. A sufficiently large 3,400mAh battery backs all of this.

Lastly, the connectivity options onboard include dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS, microUSB 2.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Honor 10 Lite Price (Expected)

As of China, the Honor 10 Lite starts at CNY 1399 (roughly Rs. 14,400) for the base model with 4/64GB configuration while the 6GB RAM model is priced at CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 17,500). On the other hand, the top-end variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage retails for CNY 1899 (around Rs. 19,500). The handset is made available in Gradient Blue, Gradient Red, Lily Valley White, and Magic Night Black colour options in the country.

Taking the Chinese price into consideration, we can expect the device to land in the sub-20K territory in India. However, we are unsure about which models and which colour options will be launched here. That being said, stay tuned for the tomorrow’s launch updates.
