Ugadi (Yugadi) is a festival celebrated every year in Andhra pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka states of India. In Maharashtra, this festival is celebrated as Gudi Padwa. As per the Hindu calendar, it is the beginning of new year.
Each year this festival falls on different day but in month of March-April, according to the Gregorian Calendar. According to the Saka calendar, Chaitra is the first month of the year and first day of the new year marks as Ugadi.
The people celebrates this festival with full of joy and happiness. A week before Ugadi, preparation starts for this festival. People apparently wash their houses thoroughly, shopping for the new garments and purchasing some other stuff as per the Hindu customs.
On the day of Ugadi people used to decorate their doors with the fresh mango leaves. People make a special dish named Ugadi Pachadi on this auspicious day. This pachadi has got various taste including sour, sweet, bitterness and prepared by the ingredients like ripe banana pieces, salt, tamarind juice, green chili pepper, jaggery and raw mangoes.
