Google Pixel smartphones accidentally leaked ahead of official unveiling

While Google is yet to reveal its upcoming Pixel handsets officially, these smartphones have already witnessed a slew of accidental leaks giving us a much closer look at the device and its features.

Just last night, a Canadian company accidentally posted a preorder page for the Google Pixel. Later, a British phone dealer Carphone Warehouse leaked even more pictures and slides. And the latest one to follow suite is Verizon, as it appears to have accidentally posted images of the upcoming Google Pixel smartphones. Besides, it also revealed they would come with a feature called as ‘Google Magic.’

So what exactly is Google Magic? Well, we can’t be sure at the moment but we do expect it to be a software of some sort, or just some marketing gimmick, or may be an enhanced version of Google Now that could be exclusive to the Pixel lineup. Besides, Verizon’s listing also suggests the phone comes in black, white and a funky blue colour option.

Earlier UK retailer Carphone Warehouse also spoiled the party for Google, revealing comprehensive information about these upcoming Pixel handsets in a slew of informative slides. It includes all the familiar details such as a 5-inch 1080p display for the Pixel and a 5.5-inch QHD display for its larger sibling. Barring the screen size, resolution and battery capacity, both devices share the same set of specs such as a Snapdragon 821 processor bundled with 4GB of RAM, along with a choice of 32GB or 128GB of internal storage.

They’ll be identical in terms of looks. And going by the leaked images posted by Carphone Warehouse, we can see a USB Type-C port at the bottom, while cutout for the 3.5mm headphone jack sits on top. Besides, slides posted by CarPhone Warehouse also reveal some of its software features such as free storage on Google Photos, the Duo video chat app along with the new Allo messaging app that’ll work alongside the built-in Google Assistant. Besides, a quick charge feature is also mentioned where fifteen minutes of charge is worth 7 hours of battery life. Live cases for these handsets are also on the cards, which are essentially customized cases initially introduced with the Nexus 6, 5X and 6P.

We’ll know more about Google’s Pixel handsets at the company’s hardware event that kicks off today in San Francisco.  Along with the much-anticipated Pixel phones, the company is also expected to announce a new 4K-ready Chromecast, a DayDream VR headset, an Amazon-Echo like device called Google Home, and a Google Wi-Fi router. Google is also expected to showcase the long rumoured Android-Chrome hybrid operating system codenamed Andromeda at the event today, an OS with desktop-like characteristics that’ll run on a number of devices including PCs, tablets, and smartphones.
