Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 tablet to stop receiving Android updates from October

Google’s Nexus devices come with the guarantee to get Android’s latest updates for at least two years from the time it gets available on the Google Store. Now, Google has specified what all Nexus devices will get the update and till when.

Google, in the latest update, mentioned on its Support page that the company can no longer guarantee that a Nexus device would get version updates or security patches, after a certain period. As mentioned in the post, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will not receive Android version updates after September 2017, while the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 will get the updates till October this year.

Google also answered the questions regarding monthly security updates saying, “For the longer of three years from availability or 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device.”

Addressing the Android One users, Google says that they will receive the software updates for at least 18 months since the phone launch. “Android One phones get the latest version of Android from Google’s hardware partners. You’ll need to connect to the Internet to get the notification and to download the software.”

Previous Nexus devices that have already stopped receiving Android version updates include Nexus 5 which received the last update in October 2015, Nexus 7 (2013) in July 2015 and Nexus 10 in November 2014.
