A Samsung Galaxy phone featuring an in-screen fingerprint technology seems to be forever in the making. For the latest on this has pegged the first device to come with the embedded biometric authentication system to be the S10, Digit reported.
If that be true then it is going to be at least 2019 for the technology to be ready to debut in a Samsung device. Another implication of the above time frame is that the upcoming Note 9 will be missing out on this crucial feature. This no doubt will be a setback for those who have been eagerly waiting for the Note 9 to finally have the said feature.
Samsung has been toying with the idea of an in-screen fingerprint sensor since the Galaxy S7 along with the subsequent devices in the Note series. However, while each device missed out on this, fans pinned their hopes on the next iteration to come with the said feature even though that was not to be.
Though not officially stated but sources claim the reason for Samsung to push back the launch of the in-screen fingerprint scanner is that the technology isn’t reliable and fast enough. As of now, Synaptics and Qualcomm offers such feature and the same have also been applied in a clutch of Chinese handsets such as the Vivo X21UD along with a few Huawei phones.
However, the feature has turned out to be markedly slower compared to capacitive sensors currently in use. That also makes sense for Samsung to be holding back on the feature till it is matured enough for prime time debut. While that is a good thing on part of Samsung, the company unfortunately has lost out on the opportunity of coming to market with the first device featuring the technology.
In a segment where technology ages at an extremely fast pace, it might be a case of too late and too little once Samsung comes up with its take on in-screen fingerprint scanner even if it is faster than current versions. People might already be craving for something else by then. Under the circumstances, Samsung fans would hope the S10 finally is the device to have the said feature and that things aren’t pushed back further.
