How to disable system notifications in Windows 10 permanently

Often, when I am busy doing something Windows throw in distracting notifications that divert my attention to something that I find of less importance. These notifications appear in the form of balloon tips, ranging from security alerts to update alerts and are displayed in the notification area.

If you, like me find this feature of Windows quite bothering, learn the trick to disable it. Yes, you can disable the system notifications easily with the registry hack given below. Bear in mind, the method applies to system notifications only and differs from the method of disabling toast notifications, covered earlier.

How To Disable System Notifications in Windows Permanently

Note: This method contains steps that inform you how to modify the registry.

However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.

First, press Win+R in combination to launch the Run dialog box.

Then, type the word “Regedit” and press “Run”.

Once done, UAC prompt appears on your computer screen as shown in the screen-shot below. Press “Yes” to run regedit.exe.

Now that regedit is open, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. Once there, right-click anywhere in blank space on the right pane and create a new 32-bit DWORD registry key.

When done, name the key, something like ‘EnableBalloonTips’.

Later, right-click on the key and select “Modify”. If the value is not set at zero, set it to 0. Thereafter, log off your computer and log back in to allow the changes take effect.

Next, right-click on the key and click on “Modify.” Make sure that the value is set to “0”. Once you have done that, you will need to log off your computer and log back in to put the change into effect.
