Chevrolet India is all set to introduce two all-new models of automobiles, along with revamping three old models. This will be done over the period of next two years. This schedule, however, doesn’t include the launch of the Spin MPV, which was expected to make its debut sometime around mid-2017.
Let’s have a look at the cars that are speculated to launch during this period:
Trailblazer 2016
Chevrolet has already introduced an updated version of the Trailblazer in Thailand. The same re-modelled car is expected to come to the Indian markets shortly. The new Trailblazer 2016 comes with up-class interiors powered by a 2.8-litre Duramax engine that provides 200bhp. The lower end version comes with a 2.5-litre Duramax engine capable of 163bhp. While we expect the same models from Thailand to come to India, we may see a 3.6-litre V6 engine with 277bhp as released in Middle Eastern Markets.
Chevrolet Beat 2017
The current Beat car will also get a face-lift along with a few changes under the boot in 2017. Earlier speculation directed that the Chevrolet Beat 2017 would be based on the same M2 platform as the new Spark 2016. But Chevrolet stated that because India is a price sensitive market, the Beat 2017 will be built on the existing Beat’s M300 platform with 1.0-litre displacement aluminum engines in both, diesel as well as petrol variants.
Beat Activ Crossover
The Beat Activ Crossover will come to the Indian market where the remodeled car will be based on the concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 earlier this year. From the information available, the car will be seen in both diesel (1.3-litre engine) and petrol (1.2-litre engine) variants. The former will provide a mileage of 25 km/litre while the latter will offer 18 km/l. Both variants will be available with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox and could arrive early in 2017 if not by the end of this year.
Chevrolet Essentia
In the months to come, you will see the Beat-based sub four-meter sedan: a new offering by Chevrolet India. The Essentia, will go neck-to-neck with competition like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Hyundai Xcent. The new sedan will also be in direct competition with the upcoming Tata Kite 5 sedan. The Essentia is expected to be launched before the end of the year and may be seen with both petrol (1.2-litres) and diesel engines (1.3-litres). The petrol engine is expected to provide around 77bhp and while the diesel may offer 55bhp. Both variants could come with the same gearbox offering 5-speed manual transmission, with an option for automatic transmission in higher models.
Chevrolet Cruze
The other new addition will by Chevrolet India will be the D-segment next-generation Cruze 2016. The same model was launched in the US and European markets this year and is expected to come to India in 2017. The Cruze 2016 in the US is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine at a 1.4-litre capacity that provides 153bhp. You can go from 0-100 km/hr in about 8 seconds and the car provides an average mileage of around 17 km/l. The car comes with the option of choosing a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
