Cheapest Reliance Jio smartphone with 4G VoLTE coming in Q1 2017

Reliance Jio is gearing up to launch India’s cheapest 4G VoLTE smartphone at a price of Rs. 1,000. According to a report revealed by a leading news portal, Reliance Jio is scheduled to launch the cheapest 4G VoLTE smartphone before the end of Q1 2017.

According to a study conducted by a leading research firm, nearly 7 out of 10 smartphones shipped in India are 4G LTE capable. In a similar way, nearly 8 out of 10 handsets are VoLTE ready.

The launch of Reliance Jio 4G services has created a huge demand for smartphones with VoLTE capability. In fact, the demand for 4G LTE phones doubled when compared to 2015. This is indeed a good signal for other competing 4G operators in India such as Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL, and Idea.

Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE smartphone specifications

There are reports that Reliance Jio is planning to launch a new smartphone between Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1500. Based on reports available so far, the handset will be powered by a Spreadtrum 9820 processor, 2GB RAM, 16G internal storage, 8MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing snapper.

Moreover, you can expect an improved camera and a large display. We expect Reliance to integrate a 4-inch or 4.5-inch display. Since the budget is low, you can expect a 4-inch display.

Reliance Jio 4G speeds decreased

The speed offered by the Reliance Jio 4G decreased by about 20 percent in October across 17 circles. As per reports, Reliance Jio posted 20 percent decline in speeds from 7.2Mbps in September 2016 to 6Mbps in October 2016.

Industry analysts are of the opinion that the decrease in speed in due to the huge number of customers signing up for the free service. As many as 17 out of the 22 markets reported fall in speeds.

Reliance and Airtel fiasco

Recently, Reliance Jio and Airtel had entered into a fierce battle regarding the allocation of interconnection points. Meanwhile, TRAI has imposed huge penalties to Airtel because they declined to provide adequate points as per agreement.

While the Reliance Jio 4G provides a speed of 6Mbps, Airtel offers 11.47Mbps. Hence, when it comes to quality Airtel will retain the market share. Airtel has blamed Reliance by stating that the Mukesh Ambani-owned company is not capable of providing services as per latest technological standards.

To recall, Reliance is already selling a wide range of LYF 4G-enabled handsets starting from Rs. 2999. The addition of a budget 4G VoLTE smartphone will be a big boon for the people in rural areas.
