Chandrayaan-2 module structure delivered to ISRO by HAL

The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. has delivered the module structure of the proposed Chandrayaan-2 mission to the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bengaluru on June 22, 2015.

HAL Chairman Suvarna Raju said, ““The Orbiter Craft Module structure is a three-tonne category bus made out of a central composite cylinder, shear webs and deck panels.”

India’s second Lunar mission, the Chandrayaan-2 is likely to come up in 2017 or 2018.

The satellite is expected to have a lander and a rover to explore Moon’s surface.

According to HAL, the Chandrayaan 2 is a two-module configuration with both orbiter craft and lander craft.

ISRO in its statement had mentioned that it will be launching Chandrayaan 2 using the powerful and sophisticated rocket GSLV-MkII that is fitted with the indigenous cryogenic engine.

ISRO is currently working on the main spacecraft and its rover.

The lander is developed at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre situated in Thiruvananthapuram.

HAL is the hardware provider for ISRO’s satellites.
