Build Quality and Design

The Canon MG3070S sports a matte black finish which gives it a stylish look and feel. Given its affordable price tag, the printer’s build quality and design are impressively at par with other higher priced printers. It feels robust, sports a sleek design and looks just like any high-end printer. That said, it’s not as compact and consumes a good chunk of space be it on your desktop table, a TV cabinet, or a rack.

The Pixma MG3070S gets a flap on top with the scanner bed lying underneath. The paper tray is placed behind the scanner which can house 60 A4 sheets in one go. The retractable output tray is at the bottom, while control buttons are conveniently placed on the top left.

Overall, the printer’s design and build quality work rather well given its affordable price tag.

Setup

The installation is fairly straightforward but does take a heck of a long time. You’ll have to plug in the USB cable to your Mac or PC to install drivers. To enable wireless and cloud printing, you’ll need to download the Canon Print Inkjet /SELPHY App via the PlayStore or App Store.

Performance

One you’re through the somewhat iffy setup process, the Canon Pixma MG3070S is quite a delight. It delivers where it matters with impressive quality prints and scans. Colours look rather vibrant and punchy with a lot of details to gawk at. Also, it can print on various paper sizes along reasonably detailed passport size snaps. That said, the printing speed is not as fast compared to other high-end printers.

During testing, the Canon Pixma MG3070S took around 28 seconds to print a colored page, while each black & white page took around 14-15 seconds. Besides, it scans at 100 dpi and above 300 dpi. It took around 9 seconds to scan at 100 dpi and over 50 seconds to scan above 300 dpi under our test conditions.

Features

Another nifty feature is that Pixma MG3070S gets wireless and cloud printing capabilities. With the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY mobile app, you have to convenience print and scan documents from your iOS or Android device. The app comes with many features to simplify the printing process for the user. You can customise the print size, check remaining ink levels, or change printer settings right from your smartphone or tablet.

And coupled with support for Cloud Printing, you can print documents and photos directly from popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Flickr, and more. To top it up, users can also access scans directly on their mobile devices using the app.

Printing costs

The Pixma MG3070S uses PG-745S ( Black) and CL-746S (coloured) ink cartridges, both of which are capable of printing 100 pages. These cartridges get reasonably priced, and you can buy coloured cartridges for Rs. 746 and Black ones for Rs.499, making it a rather easy on the pocket for basic printing needs.

Pros:

  • Well-Built
  • Affordable
  • Detailed and vibrant print quality
  • Wireless and Cloud Printing capabilities

Cons:

  • Not as compact
  • Setup process is a tad cumbersome
  • Printing speed

Wrap Up

For home users or small offices who don’t have heavy printing needs, the Canon Pixma 3070S is just what the doctor ordered. It’s affordable, gets wireless and cloud printing capabilities, and churns out impressively detailed and vibrant prints in a variety of sizes. Also, it’s well built and looks just like any high-end printer in your home of office setup. Moreover, its cartridges are reasonably priced, which again doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. While it may not be as fast when it comes to printing speed, but if you can get past that, the Canon Pixma MG3070S is all you could ask to satiate your basic printing needs. Coupled with wireless and Cloud printing capabilities, this is one complete value-for-money package.
