BSNL launches Smartphone and Tablet in Indian market

Indian Smartphone market continues to grow unabated. Realizing the potential, State-run telecom services provider BSNL has stepped in the market with the launch an internet ready phone for Rs 1,799 and a tablet and two smartphones costing between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000.

No creation is a solo effort. The manufacturing task has been carried out jointly by in association with Penta Technologies, a company that manufactures tablets and smartphones under the Penta branding.

Penta Bharat happens to be the cheapest phone that the two firms introduced in partnership. It has 3-inch display with dual SIM support, priced at Rs 1,700. It includes 1,200 minutes of BSNL free bundled talk-time. Inside the hood you will find an 1800 mAh Lithium-Ion battery capable of delivering upto 8 hrs of talk time and 15 days standby time. The handset will appeal to rural population.

“It is India’s first internet access ready phone at this price and has been designed specially for e-governance applications for the common man,” BSNL and Noida-based Pental Technologies said in a joint statement.

Second offering from the stable is PentaSmart P501 priced at Rs 6,999. It has a 5-inch display and comes with 3 GB of BSNL 3G data and 300 minutes of talk-time. The 7-inch tablet costing Rs 6,999 on the other hand comes with 3 GB of 3G data and 300 minutes of free talk time.

The tablet and the smartphone will run Android OS and will come pre-loaded with ant-malware software and HomeShop18 app. Priced at Rs 6,999, Penta Smart 501 Smartphone could be a good option for those using BSNL service in the non-metro cities.
