BSNL launches Pantel Bharat phone for Rs. 1,099

State-run telecommunication service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is aiming to expand the user base of cell phones in India. In its latest drive to make the cellphone a tool for masses, the telecom service provider launched a new handset with e-governance applications for just ₹1099. Branded as “Pantel Bharat phone”.

The phone was launched by the Visiting Mauritius President Rajkeshwar Purryag and the event witnessed participation of scores of other eminent individuals like Karnataka governor H R Bhardwaj, state Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande, Pantel Technologies MD Vijender Singh, Chairman Prashanth Tiwari.

Running into specifications, the affordable/budget phone intended for common Indians features a decent 3 inches display. Inside it has a dual-sim slot, a 1800 mAh LAN battery capable of offering 8 hours of talk time and 15 days standby time. Also, there’s a 64 MB RAM and an internal storage of 64 MB. You can notice a 1.3 megapixel pixel camera hiding on the rear-side of the phone too. BSNL Company in addition to all, offers 1200 minutes free talk-time through BSNL network on the phone.

BSNL chairman R.K. Upadhyay said, “The low-cost mobile device will alter the Indian feature phone industry as it has been designed especially for e-governance applications and optimised for internet access to empower common man. As the phone is pre-bundled with attractive voice plan, the mobile handset offers common man the power of internet access at an affordable price and will benefit a wide section of society.”

The phones will also allow users to access e-mail and Facebook. It has been launched in association with Pantel technologies, famous for offering low cost tablets for Indian market. The mobile device is priced at Rs. 1,099 only.
