Blueair Joy S air purifier review

It’s that time of the year, when the mess named ‘Air Pollution’ starts coming up in the conversations. Specially in the Delhi NCR region, where the air quality has gone down severely. People finally have become aware of the hazards of smog and air-borne particulates and we have been seeing steady growth in the Air purifier sales specially around the Diwali season.

One such Air purifier brand is Blueair. Now they are a Swedish brand and have been present in the Indian market for quite some time now. Their newest offering ‘Joy S’ seems to be focused more towards the millennial buyer looking for trendy and efficient air purifiers.

We have been using the Blueair Joy S for a while now and here’s our review.

Design

The design of the Joy S is different from other air purifier most of them have a plain rectangular, kind of a boxy design. The Joy S is cylindrical, with the outer frame made out of aluminium containing mesh like pattern for easier air flow. The filter used here is also cylindrical with the fan unit on top.

The Joy S uses 360-degree air intake to provide better and faster results in a smaller time frame. The fan housing also contains the pressure sensitive controls to increase or decrease the fan speed.

Overall the Design is very minimal, one thing worth mentioning is the ease of replacing the filter. Plus, the Joy S is available in a bunch of color options which makes the product even sweeter.

Performance

The Blueair Joy S air purifier is rated at a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 200 m3/hr which seems reasonable considering the size of the air purifier. The air purifier is effective for small bedrooms or mid-sized living rooms but for larger rooms you’ll need either a bigger unit or two air purifiers working together.

The filter unit uses something called HEPASilent technology, which uses both mechanical and electrostatic filtration to filters out and catches airborne contaminant down to 0.1 micron in size. Pollutants like pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, smoke, allergens and bacteria are all taken care of. The active carbon filter also removes odors and gases from the air and ensure total freshness.

There are three fan settings out of which in the first two the air purifier is dead silent, the fan is audible as soon as the third mode is kicked it. The modes can be changed using the pressure sensitive controls on top. There is no app or display present on the purifier unit for real time air quality monitoring which is a led down considering the price of the product.

We were able to see significant improvements in air quality in about 15 minutes of switching on the air purifier. The air purifier uses 5 cycles, meaning the air changes 5 times in an hour. When talking about the energy efficiency, the Joy S is very power efficient and uses up to 1.5 watts of electricity.

Verdict – Should you go for it?

The Blueair Joy S is a good performer for the task it has been designed for. We would have been a little happier if the company had added a support for a mobile app or a display to monitor real time air quality. The price of the product also is on the higher side when considering the features to price ratio. At INR 14,999, the Joy S is a hit or a miss, since there are a plenty of good options in the market that provide a lot more features and are priced a little less than this.
