BlackBerry DTEK50 Android phone with security features goes official

BlackBerry has just come out with a new handset which curiously has been named DTEK50. The smartphone is said to be the thinnest BlackBerry ever with just 7.4 mm thickness.

That apart, the other biggest USP that the DTEK50 comes with and which BlackBerry claims to be famously missing on all other Android handset is its inherent security features. According to the Canadian company, the DTEK50 is the safest smartphone that is currently available in the mass market. All of the extra security features that have been imbibed into Android make the DTEK50 more resilient to rooting or hacking attempts.

BlackBerry DTEK50 Android phone Specs

With the DTEK50, users will get to know if any of the apps are up to something that is beyond the privileges that they have been granted. For instance, there would be a warning message if any app is found sending unauthorized text messages, clicking images and such. In fact, BlackBerry is claiming the DTEK50 will be automatically monitoring the OS and app to warn users of any unauthorized activity.

That is not all as BlackBerry also stated they would be making available the security patches whenever it deems fit. As things stand right now, the company is already known for being the quickest to have new patches released whenever there is a loophole discovered.

Coming to the rest of the specs, DTEK50 will come across as a 5.2-inch 1080p full HD device, one that is powered by a Snapdragon 617 processor together with a 3 GB RAM along with 16 GB of storage. Fortunately, the latter can be further expanded to a max 2 TB via microSD cards. The device gets its juice from a 2,610 mAh battery which again is compliant with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. There is no USB Type-C port, though.

As for its imaging capabilities, the DTEK50 will come equipped with a 13 MP rear cam with auto-focus while an 8MP front shooter should be enough selfie shots or video chats.

On the software front, the DTEK50 will come pre-loaded with all that accompanied the Priv. Those include BlackBerry Hub, DTEK50 security, Password Keeper, BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Calendar, along with a few more. Further, Android Marshmallow will come pre-installed with perhaps the update to Nougat following soon thereafter.

BlackBerry DTEK50 Android phone Price and Availability

If all of the above sounds enticing enough, one can head to ShopBlackBerry.com that now has the device listed for a quite decent $299. The DTEK50 right now is available in U.S., Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the DTEK50 does look awfully similar to the Alcatel IDOL 4 that was announced during the Mobile World Congress in February. And that’s not without reason as well since, as per an earlier rumor, the Neon too will be made by TCL Communication that also manufacturers Alcatel hardware.
