With Earth Hour 2016 approaching fast on 19th March, Saturday; local time 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) a Chinese web services company has joined hands with WWF to inspire the people around the world to support WWF’s global movement via a fun online game.
Earth Hour is a grassroots movement uniting people across the world to protect the planet. Earth Hour started off as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) catapulted the event to success over the years and finally engaged more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide.
Till date the hallmark of the Earth Hour is switching off the non-essential lights for an hour (8:30-9:30 pm local time) and thereby enlightening individuals, businesses communities regarding the role they can play in curbing the climate changes.
In 2016, DU Group, a mobile product subsidiary of Baidu, which is famous for its widely used apps namely ES File Explorer, DU Speed Booster, DU Battery Saver has promised to release an interactive game named “Light Up the Night” on March 12th, 2016 a week before the Earth Day.
Using social networking and the advertisements within its already famous apps DU Group will encourage users all over the world to virtually turn off the lights of the most iconic monuments and landmarks of the world as a token of their commitment to climate action. This is the third time that DU Group has collaborated with WWF for its Earth Hour campaign.
Tang Cailin, product director of DU Group, in his speech, says that climate change is one of the today’s most alarming issues.
“Together with WWF, we’re reaching out to hundreds of millions of people to let their voices be heard and to encourage them to be a part of global efforts to change climate change.”
During Earth Hour, DU Apps (Battery Saver, Speed Booster and ES File Explorer) will also prompt users to share pictures of the night sky with acquaintances to spread the word regarding climate change.
