Asus (TPE: 2357) announced the rollout of the Android Marshmallow 6.0 upgrade for its ZenFone lineup of smartphones and will be available starting March 2016 via over-the-air (OTA) update. Announcing the release of the latest version of Android, Asus revealed a broad range of its ZenFone smartphones.
According to Asus, smartphones including ZenFone 2, ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Selfie, ZenFone Max, and ZenFone Zoom etc. will receive Android Marshmallow updates before the end of March 2016.

However, the company sources confirmed to us that other Asus smartphones i.e. ZenFone 5, ZenFone C and ZenFone Go smartphones will receive the upgrade onwards April 2016. The update to Android Marshmallow means a lot for Asus smartphones since Asus Messenger; Asus Mail and Asus Calendar will be replaced by Google Messenger, Calendar, and Gmail apps automatically.
However, Asus disclosed in a statement that if users restore factory settings after the upgrade, they will be able to install ASUS labelled apps directly from the Google Play.
Recently, Samsung also rolled out Android Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge devices with Sony also providing an update for its Sony Xperia Z5. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has also started to roll out the update for Mi branded devices in a phased manner.
With an overall adoption rate of 1 percent, Android Marshmallow is struggling to reach massive consumer base because the ultimate responsibility to provide updates for the devices rests with the relevant manufacturer.
As per unconfirmed reports, Asus is planning to release Android 6.0.1 update instead of the proposed Android 6.0. Asus ZenFone owners will receive a notification as soon as Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is available for their device. Alternatively, customers can also verify the existence of an update by tapping Settings option.
