Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Initial Impressions

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro

Asus Zenfone 4 lineup is flooded with camera-centric smartphones right now, especially for the selfie lovers. Asus recently released tow smartphones with dual camera setup on the front to target the selfie lovers and to compete with some selfie-centric smartphone brands. Both the smartphones come with dual camera setup with different specification and software optimizations. We have here the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro with the dual 12MP camera at the front and full metal build.

Design and Build

The Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro looks premium with the white front panel and metal unibody and yes the dual camera too. The phone feels like a solid slab of metal build with no flexing on the back panel. The phone is very lightweight, and the beautiful curves on the edges make it quite comfortable to hold and operate it. The bezels on either side of the display are very thin even that the display has that black border around it.

The front panel is white with 5.5 inches Full HD AMOLED display which is protected with the 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass display which looks gorgeous. Below the display is the capacitive home button which doubles as the fingerprint sensor and has the capacitive buttons on either side of it.

The top edge of the phone is empty except the secondary microphone, the left side got the SIM card tray, and right edge got the volume rocker and the power button. The microUSB port, loudspeaker, 3.5 mm audio port and the primary microphone is located at the bottom edge. The back panel has the main camera with dual LED dual tone flash and the Asus logo.

Camera

The main USP of the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is the front camera; it is a dual camera setup with two 12MP sensors which takes one picture using the DuoPixel technology. The software adds a brightness and clarity to the selfie pictures taken from both the cameras at the same time. The rear camera is a 16MP shooter with 80-degree field of view and capable of capturing 4K UHD video.

The camera comes with a bunch of modes like beauty mode, super-resolution, GIF animation, panorama and time lapse. It also comes with Pro mode which provides the raw file for graphics designers. The Super Resolution mode captures pictures with a resolution of 64 megapixels.

As this smartphone is selfie camera-centric so let’s talk about it first, the images captured by the front camera is amazing. The details are excellent, and the contrast is crisp, the color contrast part didn’t impress much. The rear camera, on the other hand, is good with the daylight condition but fails to create the effect in artificial or low light. Check out all the camera samples took from both the cameras in different light condition.

Software

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro comes with Android 7.1 Nougat installed with the layer of Zen UI 4.0. The Zen UI 4.0 is pretty sleek from the previous versions but still holds back the performance which we expect from the hardware. There are lots of unnecessary apps comes preinstalled which you cannot uninstall from the system.

Performance

The smartphone powers by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with eight cores and power saving technology. The smartphone comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMCP storage with 100GB free Google Drive space for one year. The performance is quite impressing from this hardware, everything runs smooth, games didn’t lag, and the multitasking experience is also fantastic.

The Zen UI was somewhere keeping the performance at a bit low level, if Asus start giving vanilla Android experience on its smartphones, the performance will improve a lot. The camera UI is also amazing and fast; the shutter speed is almost instantaneous. The fingerprint sensor is fast, and no lag can be seen whatsoever. The battery performs really good and the charging time is very less comparing to other smartphones with 3000 mAh battery.

Final Words

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is only for people who are really into taking selfies every time; the dual front camera setup performs amazingly well. The rear camera is also good but not better than the front-facing camera. Everything is great and the price Rs. 23,999 is kind of worth it.
