Apple iPhone camera will soon get an Augmented Reality refresh

Augmented Reality

Apple is reportedly working to integrate Augmented Reality into iPhone’s camera app. According to a report published by Business Insider, the Cupertino-based giant strategy to infuse Augmented Reality in iPhones includes technology inherited from Metaio and Flyby Media. In early 2016, Apple had acquired these two companies.

The recently released report also reveals the fact that the employees of both Metaio and Flyby Media are working with Apple’s camera team to implement the augmented reality feature. Apple will most likely release the AR as SDK for app developers. This is similar to that of the SDK for Touch ID fingerprint sensor and Apple Siri. Apple is also of the opinion that the AR technology can also be used for automated driving platform.

There are reports that Apple is also gearing up to release an exclusive augmented reality-based wearable glasses. With the addition of AR-specific features, you will be able to make use of iPhones to point the phone at a real-world object and have it be recognized.

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook stressed the importance of integrating augmented reality (AR). He added that there is more potential in augmented reality (AR) than virtual reality (VR). Cook also said that the company will continue to invest a lot in the AR arena.

Previously, Apple had acquired Metaio based in Germany. The company developed and deployed virtual product showrooms and other products for clients such as IKEA. Meanwhile, the Flyby Media was acquired by the iPhone manufacturer in early 2016.

Apple is expected to shelve the iPhone 7s branding in iPhone 2017. The forthcoming handset will be named as iPhone 8 since Apple is planning to celebrate its 10th anniversary of iPhone on a grand scale.
