Several rumored additions for upcoming iOS, ranging from Shazam integration to health were making rounds in the mobile market.

Apple iOS 8 Unveiled with HealthKit at WWDC

Apple has put an end to all the speculations by showing off a preview of its next-gen mobile operating system, iOS 8, today. The preview is currently available to developers only but is expected to be released for the Apple devices in the final form during this fall. It would be compatible with iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, and 5c, as well as iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, and both mini iPads.

Some key features of iOS 8 are HealthKit – a Health app, Family Sharing, new keyboard support and others.

With HomeKit, home automation firms can pair with the iPhone so that you can control the Internet of Things with your iOS device. Secure pairing means that only your iPhone can open the front door or unlock the garage, Craig Federighi, senior vice president of Software Engineering at Apple, said during his Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote.

On the keyboard front, iOS 8 will support third-party keyboard apps like Swype and SwiftKey. The Family Sharing feature is also a welcome addition to the latest OS. It lets you track your purchases, as well as the purchases of up to five other family members.

So, if a family member, for instance, your child plans to purchase something on the App Store or iTunes, a pop-up will remind them to seek to seek the guardian’s permission.
