Google has finally started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat over-the-air update for Android One devices. According to reports, the Cherry Mobile G1 is one of the first Android One smartphones to get the latest Android Nougat update.
We can expect other Android One smartphones to receive the Android Nougat upgrade in the next few weeks. Hence, if you have an Android One smartphone, you’ll likely get the software update notification soon. It’s a fairly large update at about 750MB, so make sure your Android One smartphone has enough free space and it would be safe if you connect to a Wi-Fi network before you start the updating.
Android One phones now become the second wave of devices after the Nexus range who receive the new Android OS upgrades. The update started rolling out on August 22. While Google announced the LG V20 to be the first smartphone to come with Android Nougat 7.0 pre-installed. The latest Android Nougat offers several improvements and features such as easier multitasking, new emojis, and improved battery performance.
Android Nougat Features
In Android Nougat, Google has introduced a new and improved Doze mode which triggers as soon the phone’s screen goes off and works even while when your phone is in motion. Unlike Android Marshmallow, where your phone had to be physically at rest for the feature to work.
Besides, the Notifications panel gets a major overhaul. In Android Nougat, users can now tap on some notifications and directly from the notifications panel, doing away the need to open the completely. Though the functionality is not available for every app. For now, Gmail, Messenger, and Hangouts are equipped with this quick-reply feature.
In addition, Android Nougat offers a new way of multi-tasking with the Split-screen feature. By opening just one app you want to use on the screen, you just have to press and hold down the square-shaped overview button housed at the bottom right, which allows you to choose between other apps you want to add to the screen. This essentially means you can work on two apps at the same time, without having to switch back and forth between the two.
Furthermore, Android Nougat also features a Data Saver mode which keeps a check on apps running in the background. They only run if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, saving your monthly data charges.
