Lenovo earlier promised that the Moto G4 Play will get upgraded to Android Nougat 7.1.1 in June. And now it appears that the update has started rolling out, as Moto G4 Play users in Brazil have started receiving the Nougat update. Hence, we can expect Moto G4 Play devices in other markets across the globe to get upgraded to Android Nougat as well. The update includes Android Nougat 7.1.1 which also comes with the latest Android security patch released by Google on June 1. Besides, the update weighs in at around 640MB and comes with a slew of Android Nougat features and improvements.
According to Motorola, users who wish to install the latest update on their Moto G4 Play devices need to ensure that the battery level is at least 50 percent before proceeding with the upgrade process. Also, the device needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi or an LTE network. To check whether your Moto G4 Play is eligible for the upgrade, just head over to Settings>About Phone>Software Update to check and install the update. The update shows up as software version NPI26.48-8.
To recall, the Moto G4 Play was released last year as a budget alternative to the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus. Moto G4 Play is a low-cost Android smartphone offering from Motorola. The phone is targeted at customers who are tight on budget, though it’s a device that does not compromise on specs and features. Users can get it at just around a $100 without any carrier contract. The device gets powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor bundled with 2GB of RAM.
Motorola doesn’t disappoint when it comes to software updates, especially when taking into account major Android upgrades. Apart from its flagship devices like Moto Z, even the company’s budget offerings like Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, along with Moto G4 Play were updated Nougat in no time. On the contrary, Korean giant Samsung began pushing the stable Nougat release to its flagship phones like the Galaxy S7 this year. Even today some Galaxy S7 users are awaiting Android 7.1.1 update, but it seems Motorola has been quick to roll out the Nougat 7.1.1 upgrade to its Moto G4 Play users, as its users from Brazil would claim.
