Huawei Mate 9 Pro with a curved 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED screen launched in China

Chinese manufacturer Huawei recently announced the two new flagship devices in Germany – the Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Edition. Today, the company has announced these two devices in China, alongside another variant of the phone dubbed as the Huawei Mate 9 Pro.  

The newly announced Huawei Mate 9 Pro has been launched in China only, and there’s no word on its global availability as of now. The smartphone is nearly identical to the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Edition in terms of specs and design. It’s essentially a cheaper alternative to the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Edition, as it doesn’t carry the ‘Porsche Design’ branding.  

Huawei Mate 9 Pro: Specs and Features

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro sports an all-metal unibody design featuring a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) curved AMOLED display. Under the hood, the device gets powered by Huawei’s Kirin 960 64-bit octa-core processor bundled with either 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of built-in storage. It gets a Leica-branded dual-camera setup featuring 20MP and 12MP primary cameras, along with an 8MP front-facing shooter.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with Huawei’s EMUI 5.0 user interface. Juicing up the smartphone is a 4000 mAh battery. As far as dimensions are concerned, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro measures 152 x 75 x 7.5mm. The 4G RAM variant of the device is priced at 4,699 Yuan ($687), while the 6GB RAM variant costs 5,299 Yuan ($775), which makes it much affordable than the Huawei Mate 9 Pro Porsche Design Edition’ priced at 8,999 Yuan ($1316). The Huawei Mate 9 goes on sale in China starting November 14, while both the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design and the Huawei Mate 9 Pro variants will go on sale in the country starting December 15.

Besides, Google’s VP of Virtual Reality, Clay Bavor recently confirmed in an event that the Huawei Mate 9 Pro will soon get support for its DayDream VR platform. The Google DayDream VR headset was recently launched priced at $79. Also, Google recently launched the new YouTube VR app which is now available for download on the PlayStore for free. The app is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later, and lets users watch immersive 360-degree videos.
