HTC Vive 2 with 4K display to reportedly launch at CES 2017

HTC Vive 2 is reportedly set to be unveiled at the upcoming CES 2017 consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. Taipei-based news publication Digitimes, said in a recent report that HTC is set to launch the next-gen Vive 2 headset at the annual consumer technology tradeshow next week in Las Vegas.

The report also mentions the upgrades and changes we can expect from the next HTC Vive 2 compared to its predecessor. For instance, the headset is expected to come with a built-in wireless transmitter which would allow users to move around freely. Also, the HTC Vive 2’s display is a said to get an upgrade. The next version of Vive is expected to pack twin 4K displays with refresh rates of 120Hz, an upgrade from 2160×1200 resolution 90Hz found on the current-gen HTC Vive.

We’ll hear more details about the upcoming Vive headset next week. HTC has a press event scheduled at CES 2017 titled ‘ the future VR’, which makes it rather clear about the possibility of something VR-related announced at the event.

The Taiwanese manufacturer has also confirmed a major launch event called something “for u” around mid-January where it might unveil its next flagship. Some reports also claim that HTC might launch the recently leaked HTC X10 smartphone at the January 12 event.

Past leaks suggest that the upcoming HTCX10 would be a mid-range device. Rumored specs of the HTCX10 include a 5.5-inch Full HD display, MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor bundled with Mali-T860 graphics and 3GB of RAM. Other rumored specs include 32GB of built-in storage along with a 13MP primary camera with support for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

And in case you missed, a recent report coming out of China also claims that HTC plans to announce three new smartphones in Q1 2017. The report said that apart from the next flagship smartphone from HTC, the company will also announce two affordable handsets by the quarter ending March next year.
